The Techo Team

With an in-house team of skilled and highly experienced staff Techo is able to deliver complex, bespoke projects from conception through to design, installation, commissioning and finally the handover of a fully operational solution that clients can be proud of. Meet the Techo team...

Frank Wallwork

Engineer

ME (Chem & Mats), Dip Dairy Sci. and Tech.

I started as a Technical Officer in the dairy industry in 1993 after doing a degree in Chemical Engineering. I really wanted to work in an industry that is the backbone of industry in New Zealand. After working for a dairy cooperative for 5 years I decided to move into process engineering and project management as a contractor. This evolved into the founding of Techo Ltd as a vehicle to deliver the best turnkey dairy projects for clients.

As the Managing Director of Techo Ltd, I am responsible for the overall direction of the company. Often I will become involved in engineering projects as this is my passion.

Outside of work I love to fish, dive and snow ski as well as spend as much time as possible with my young family. As a family we love to travel and explore new places.

Warren Boyes

Engineer

BE (Chem Proc.)

I'm a Process Engineer and Project Engineer and one of the Leaders at Techo Ltd. I received my honours degree in Chemical and Process Engineering from the University of Canterbury back in early 1999. I joined Techo Ltd in 2002 after several process optimisation, product development and operations roles within Fonterra and one of its precursors, Anchor Products.

What I love about Techo is our focus on quality engineering and quality projects and, with our wide array of skills, no two days are the same. We are small enough to react and tailor solutions but large enough to deliver a quality product repeatedly. No cookie cutters solutions here, we take time to develop a relationship and understand our client's needs before offering the "most correct solution".

I live in Auckland, with my wife, three daughters and (female) dog. Sucker for punishment... When I'm in Auckland there is always a netball game, hockey game, ballet show, gymnastics competition, swimming competition, or the myriad of trainings all over the city to ferry kids to or watch. In between time I enjoy family camping in the summer time and snow skiing in the winter. For quiet time I take the dog out for a run most mornings. I serve on the committee of the Eastern Suburbs Gymnastics Club and head up the subcommittee for building a new gym.

David Lacey

General Manager
HSEQ Manager

I have worked in various roles across a variety of industries in New Zealand, the U.K. and Japan. This has included designing the fire protection systems for the Aotea Centre in Auckland and later Canary Wharf in London, working as a site manager during the construction of a factory being built for Toyota Motors in the UK, designing fire protection systems and carrying out overseas project management in Nagoya, Japan and more recently selling enterprise level software as a service solutions to large corporates and government organisations in New Zealand.

My role at Techo is to ensure we have the systems and procedures in place required to ensure all projects are delivered to a standard that exceeds client expectations. Managing the Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental aspects of how we work are also critical.

Outside of work I mountain bike regularly and ride my dirt bike most weekends.

Ryan Mitchell

Construction Manager

Fabrication Trade Cert

My role as construction manager is to oversee the construction and installation works on various projects. This role usually requires being based on-site for the duration of projects and includes management of subcontractors and suppliers, and working closely with clients to deliver a safe, high quality project. Prior to working with Techo I completed my trade as a Fabricator Welder which led to working on a large number of dairy, food and beverage and industrial projects around New Zealand.

When I'm not working I enjoy spending time with my wife and two young girls and riding trail bikes.

Zeb

Zeb Cookson

Engineer

Dairy Dip.

It was with great sadness that we learned that Zeb had passed away on September 16th 2023.

Zeb was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease in mid-2021. Zeb maximised the time left to him while he was able, focusing on spending time with his family, wife Dana and daughters Phoebe and Kacie. Plus, being a lifelong dirtbike rider Zeb had things he still wanted to do, this included riding around the South Island on an adventure bike, which he did with the help of his close friend Jay, building more memories for both of them at the same time.

Zeb was more than just a workmate for several of us at Techo. As keen dirtbike riders ourselves we shared a common passion and over the years we managed to get out for the odd ride with Zeb. As all bike riders know, as soon as the helmet goes on the competition begins! Unfortunately Zeb was faster than any of us so it was always a job to chase him down, but that didn’t stop us trying!

When it came to work Zeb was a rare find; Someone who could talk to clients (although he was a man of few words, so maybe it was his cheeky grin that won them over...), establish what they needed to achieve and then develop and deliver a great project. His background and personality meant that he could truly relate with both clients and the contractors that delivered the work for him. Very few people are irreplaceable in any workplace, but as far as Techo are concerned Zeb is one of those people. The phrase “how do we clone Zeb?” has been said many times over the years!

Since Zeb was diagnosed with MND, and now with his passing, we have received numerous messages of shock and sadness at the news which reflect the positive impact Zeb had on everyone he worked with, including us.

Zeb fought to stay with his family for as long as he could but in the end MND wouldn’t be denied. Zeb you are, and will continue to be missed as both a friend and a colleague. We are lucky to have had you as part of the team. Rest in peace mate.

Paul Graham

Project Engineer

Electrical Trade Cert (maintained)

I specialise in project design, equipment procurement, and project management and regularly work across the full scope of a project, from scoping, costing and conceptual design works, through to budget development, detailed designs and project implementation and development.

Prior to coming to Techo I worked on industrial plant process control and automation in the Bay of Plenty area. I have worked at most Fonterra sites over the years, including one year spent at the Reporoa plant (which processes enough milk a day to make more than eight million flat whites!!) and another spent at the Hautapu plant, the plant responsible for making "pink gold" a.k.a lactoferrin, which is used in yoghurts, infant formula and health products.

I was born and bred in Tauranga and am now based in Papamoa. I have two teenage sons, both of whom attend Mount Maunganui College. We are all keen on mountain biking which is handy seeing as we live in such close proximity to some of the region's best mountain biking trails. I am also a keen motorbike rider and I split my riding time between my trials bike and my adventure bike.
