Project Type: Hygienic Process

Cheese Whey Clarifiers Upgrade

Our client purchased two new clarifiers capable of achieving a greater rate of throughput than their existing equipment. Techo was called in to manage the removal of the old clarifiers and the installation of the new equipment.

Due to the compressed timeframe the civil scope of the project had to be carried out while the surrounding plant was running in the lead up to the end of the season. This meant demolishing the existing concrete clarifier foundations and building new foundations while managing dust to an acceptable level for a food processing plant.

Differences between the existing equipment and the new equipment meant that we were unable to reuse the existing sludge lines. Installing the new sludge lines required the drilling of new holes through the floor and into the services tunnel below in order to reconnect to the existing sludge disposal system. Again this work was carried out while the surrounding plant was operational.

Project Value: $500,000

Duration: 4 Months

Project Type: Fixed Price/Turn-key (civil, mechanical, electrical, automation and commissioning). Health & Safety managed under the client's Safe Work System

Consultant: Aurecon (prepared budget & scope doc for client)

Construction man hours: 4,000

Key Points:

  • 2 Clarifiers capable of achieving 60m3/h set up to work with the surrounding 45m3/h separators;
  • Valves capable of regulating flow and pressure of the clarifier feed lines;
  • New sludge discharge tie in;
  • New recirculation loop;
  • Dynamic VSD brakes for clarifier;

Outcome:

  Great plant delivered safely, on time and on budget

Client Testimonial

Techo was the lead contractor engaged to install and commission two, new, free issued Clarifiers in our plant and upgrade the associated product and service feedlines, recirculation system, and sludge discharge lines.

The purpose of this project was to replace old equipment, ease capacity constraints, and provide a degree of future proofing without disrupting the surrounding processes.

We needed a contractor that could directly engage subcontractors while managing timelines, equipment delivery, health & safety, documentation, and also keeping all stakeholders well informed with regular progress reports and communication updates.

Techo has again delivered on these expectations and managed to successfully deliver the project objectives, on time and on budget, in sometimes trying conditions during an extremely busy and short shut period on a complex manufacturing site.

I'm happy to recommend Wesley and the Techo team and look forward to working with them on future projects.
